Whether you’re completely new to the game or a seasoned pro, American Mahjong is now at your fingertips. Get ready to learn this classic game, surrounded by fellow players who share your passion for fun and mental challenges. It’s a whole experience that will keep you coming back for more!

Dates: January 6, 13, 20, 23, 27, 30
Two sessions per evening
Session 1: 5 pm – 7 pm
Session 2: 7 pm – 9 pm
(Please note your preferred session time when registering)

Price: $70 total

Participants: Limited to 12 per session, first come, first served.
Age: 16 and older
Practice Mahjong sets will be provided during game sessions

Open your mind to Mahjong and learn from an expert!

Mahjong is a game like no other, filled with tiles, strategies, and a little bit of luck. Learn everything from identifying the tiles and navigating the Mahjong card, to setting up a game, dealing, and mastering the Charleston (this part is important!). Plus, we’ll explore different variations of play. There’s something for everyone, and you’ll get plenty of practice to sharpen your skills. Longtime Omaha resident and experienced educator Silvia Conley, who has introduced hundreds to the art of assembling a winning hand and the joy of camaraderie through American Mahjong, will be leading the engaging classes.

What is American Mahjong?

American Mahjong is a fun twist on the traditional Chinese tile game, played with 152 tiles and a unique card that changes each year. The goal? To draw and discard tiles to form winning combinations based on the card’s sequences and patterns. With “Jokers” and a tile-exchange round called the “Charleston,” this version of Mahjong adds layers of excitement and strategy that’ll keep you on your toes! It’s the perfect mix of luck and skill, making it a popular pastime.

Click here to fill out the registration form. We’ll confirm your spot if space is available. If classes fill up, don’t worry—you will be placed on a waitlist for future sessions. Full payment is due on the first day of class (January 6). Participants are asked to attend all sessions.

The 2024 National Mah Jongg League card will be provided and used during these sessions. Information on where to purchase your card will be provided. So call your friends, and get ready for a fun, social way to spend your winter evenings. Sea Thai will be selling delicious Thai cuisine before and after your games! Make plans to stop by early for a delicious plate of Chicken Mango or grab a warm to-go item after your game.
